China Entry Pack 5.0- Wondering what to eat in China?
China is famous throughout the world not only for its culture, but also for Chinese cuisine. The history of Chinese cuisine is venerable; it can stretch back to ancient times, and various from period to period. Chinese traditional cuisine is originated from eight provinces, they are from Anhui, Guangdong, Fujian, Hunan, Jiangsu, Shandong, Sichuan and Zhejiang. My favorite one is Sichuan food. You may not recognize what Sichuan food is, but if I say hotpot and Kung Pao Chicken are both belong to Szechuan food, you would probably have eaten them. Confusing about what to eat in China? No worries, China Entry Pack 5.0 will tell you what indigenous Chinese eat. The three main criteria for a good Chinese dish are Color, aroma and taste. The combination of a diversified color, perfect aroma and wonderful taste makes a Chinese dish best. Color is so evident that if the color looks neither bright nor harmonious, then people may have poor appetite, and nobody would like to try the dish even though the taste may be good. Color also includes the layout and the design of a courses. Chinese concern a lot about the aesthetics of food. Peppers, gingers and green onions are normally used in Chinese cuisine, for its color and taste. Aroma, which includes the detection of the freshness of raw materials, is more than smell delievering to your nose. Chinese five-spice, which includes Chinese cinnamon, clove, chilly, fennel and aniseed, are normally used in savory dishes so that the non-vegetable foods can have a pleasant smell. A good taste, which is the soul of a dish, is the result of proper seasoning. Chinese taste has five types, namely sour, sweet, bitter, hot and salty. Normally, the standard of a proper taste varies from different regions. People who live in southern part would prefer sweet dishes, while northern people like salty taste. A same raw material for food can be cooked differently in western countries. In China, we cook vegetables, and sometimes, add soy sauce or garlic to make it have flavors. In western countries, people would prefer boiling it in water, or mix it in salads. Besides, Chinese share dishes with others sitting at a round or square table, and westerners would just order their own food. What is more, Chinese would slice everything into bite size. To the contrary, westerners would serve the food in big pieces, so knives and forks are provided to cut them.
Pizza, one of the most popular food in the United States, corresponds to “Xiàn Bîng” (Chinese meat pie) in China. Xiàn Bîng, which is the brother of pizza in China, is one of the most classic northern pastries. It has a crispy wrapper and a juicy filling. The fillings can be made of beef, lamb, pork or vegetables. As a cheap street food, you can easily see or buy it from roadside vendors. It is also available in restaurants. Usually, it would be listed under staple foods with dumplings, spring rolls and rice.
Pasta, which is an Italian cuisine, is available throughout the world. It is categorized into dry and fresh, and usually serving with Alfredo, Pesto or Marinara sauce. In China, chow mein is one of the most popular staple foods. Chow mein means fried noodles in Chinese, and it is fried with sauce and veggies. A good combination makes the meal become healthy and tasty.
Kebab is term that originated from Middle East. Seasoned meat is cooked on a turning-slowly rotisserie, and after slicing; the meat is served with various veggies or accompaniments stuffed into a tortilla. In China, meat can be cooked in other ways, such as fry or deep fry. However, from my point of view, my favorite way of cooking meat is Chinese BBQ. Chinese barbecue pertains to one of the most popular late snack. People usually broil meat over a charcoal flame with spice such as cumin and white sesame. This way of eating meat is more popular in northern part of China.
